HOSTS What Is It? HOSTS (Help One Student To Succeed) is a mentor program at Jonas Salk Middle School in Sacramento. It was started seven years ago by Point West Rotary and six or seven tutors. This program has been expanded to approximately 230 tutors serving 60 students. The students are 7th and 8th graders who are reading from 2 to 5 years below grade level. Tutors commit to working with the same student in the same time period once a week for the entire school year. Approximately 30 Point West Rotarians are presently involved in HOSTS.
